Social Work and Bioethics Offer New Dual Degree Program
The School of Social Work and the Bioethics Program at the School of Professional Studies are pleased to announce the approval of a new Master of Science in Social Work/Master of Science in Bioethics dual degree program. Social workers play an essential role in resolving ethical dilemmas at all levels of the health care system, and this program will prepare graduates to pursue unique professional opportunities and serve as leaders at the vital intersections of these two fields.
Students in the program will alternate between coursework in the School of Social Work and the Bioethics Program for a total of 81 credits, spread out over six terms of full-time study. Each of these two programs counts courses from the other program toward its own degree. Students are therefore able to receive both degrees for significantly less credits and cost than if these were pursued separately. This new dual-degree program officially launches in Fall 2025.
To learn more about this exciting program, please join us for an online information session on Monday, April 21 at 12:00 pm.
"As a former clinical social worker in oncology, I know how much a foundation in bioethics can contribute to our multi-disciplinary practice in health care, particularly when assisting patients and family navigating life-altering illness, and advocating for them in ethics consults and institutional policy making." -- Richard Hara, Senior Associate Dean for MSSW Education.
