Dear CSSW Community,
You have no doubt seen Columbia in the news extensively over the past few weeks.
There is so much news coming at us that it is difficult to keep up. From the cuts in federal funding, to ICE’s detainment of former SIPA student Mahmoud Khalil, to further ICE actions on campus (described here), and so much more. Even more changes are rolling in as we speak; we are working around the clock with multiple groups and constituencies to monitor and respond to them, while maintaining our focus on sustaining our mission and vision for a more just and equitable world.
I have had the privilege of meeting with many groups of faculty, researchers, staff, and students over the past week. I will be meeting with additional groups, including alumni leaders, in the days ahead. I am grateful to each and every one of you who made time for these meetings, openly and thoughtfully shared your views, and expressed your desire to craft a better future, together.
I realize that the blizzard of changes in our environment serve to elevate feelings of distress, anxiety, and fear. By clicking here, you will find a comprehensive list of resources available to students, staff, researchers, and faculty. Please do not hesitate to utilize them as you think best.
As we head into spring break, I wanted to take a moment to remind you to take advantage of this time to rest and restore as you are best able. We will keep on top of these issues in the meantime, and will certainly have more to work on when everyone returns, as we continue to build an environment that fosters understanding and dignity for all.
In community,
Melissa
