Our campus community

April 21, 2024

Dear CSSW Colleagues,

It is an understatement to say that the past week has been incredibly tough here at Columbia. There is so much to process with the congressional hearing and the arrests of CSSW and other students on our campus. Many of you are directly impacted and others see deep pain and discord. It is hard to put into words.

At this point, it is important to remember how much all are struggling in this moment – with what they are seeing, and with what they are feeling. Please be kind to yourselves and to one another, and offer support to your colleagues and students when you feel able to do so.

Also remember that there are resources available to help (see links below this message). Our Advising Team is doing an exceptional job at reaching out and providing support to students wherever needed – all while processing their own reactions in this moment, I am sure, so their dedication is especially commendable. If you see that a particular student may be struggling and could benefit from more support, it would be helpful if you would contact our advising office ([email protected]) to alert them.

The magnitude of recent events affects all of us. I trust we can continue to look to one another for support as we move forward.

In community,

Melissa
