Join us for the launch of Child Benefits: A Smart Investment for America's Future by Jane Waldfogel, Compton Foundation Centennial Professor at the Columbia University School of Social Work. In this timely and compelling book, Waldfogel explores why the United States—despite being one of the wealthiest nations—has some of the highest child poverty rates among its peers and remains the only high-income country that does not offer a child benefit: regular payments from the government to most or all families with children, not conditioned on parental employment.
In Child Benefits, author Jane Waldfogel makes a clear and compelling case for establishing a child benefit in the United States. The discussion will also explore the history and impacts of child benefits, examine major policy proposals currently under debate, and present recommendations for a policy that would deliver the best outcomes for children and families, as well as the strongest return on investment.
Event is co hosted with the Center on Poverty and Social Policy, Columbia Population Research Center, Columbia School of Social Work, and the SIPA Institute of Global Politics–Women’s Initiative.
