Student Enrollment and Registration

Ensure that you are consistently checking your Lionmail email for updates from the Office of Student Affairs.
For up-to-date information, please use the Information Hub.

Immunization Requirements

All students (in both Online and Residential campuses) must comply with the University’s immunization requirements. Failure to comply will prohibit enrollment.

Registration Holds

Students will be unable to register if there is a hold on their accounts. The School of Social Work CANNOT override any hold (Account Balance or Immunization). You can view any holds on your record in SSOL. Students should follow up with the appropriate department before the upcoming registration window.

Wait Lists

There will be no wait lists during preliminary registration periods. Students will have the opportunity to join wait lists for desired classes during Add/Drop periods.

Stellic

Students are encouraged to use Stellic, the degree audit tool, to help with course planning. Your Stelliac plan outlines the courses required for your program. Once you log in you will select "Track Progress" and then select "Planner." This shows yoou semester by semester your requirements. Access to this platform as well as any other online Columbia University platform will require an active University ID (UNI).

The Ins and Outs of Enrollment and Registration

All students register for courses during their designated registration time via Student Services Online (SSOL), the University’s Web-based registration system.

It's also a place for students to manage essential tasks such as: check account balances, update contact info, handle course registration and so much more. Learn about SSOL or login

The School will allow you to transfer a maximum of nine credits, of which no more than six can be for elective courses. You can receive credits for prior courses if they were taken at another accredited school of social work within the past five years and you earned at least a B. You are required to submit a form listing those courses for review. For more details, Transfer Credit Policy Statement.

It is recommended that students discuss their LOA or Withdrawal request with the Office of Advising PRIOR to submitting the form.

Students will be held responsible for related tuition and fees (see refund details).

Program Withdrawals, Leaves & Readmission

Students can request a leave of absence prior to the start of a term or during a term. When a student takes a leave of absence during a term, this action also is considered a withdrawal. Withdrawal is defined as the dropping of one’s entire academic program in a given term after the first day of classes of the term. When a student requests a leave of absence, their intent is to resume their studies based on an approved timeframe. However, if a student requests to withdraw from the program, their enrollment at the School is terminated, and they must reapply via the standard admissions process should they wish to re-enroll at a later date.

Withdrawing from the School of Social Work after the start of the semester can have implications for financial aid, and students are encouraged to speak with the Office of Financial Aid about any financial consequences. Any student who wishes to withdraw from the School of Social Work must notify the Office of Advising in writing and subsequently complete the LOA/Withdrawal Form. Neither notification to instructors of a plan to withdraw nor failure to attend classes will constitute an official withdrawal from the school of Social Work.

It is recommended that students discuss their LOA or Withdrawal request with the Office of Advising PRIOR to submitting this form.

Students will be held responsible for related tuition and fees [See Refund Schedule below]
