Sauti Mashinani Lab

Logo of the Sauti Mashinani Lab. A purple umbrella behind two hands reaching out to each other.

Sauti Mashinani means “grassroots voices” in Swahili, and this is central to our mission as a Lab. We are a multi-country, multi-stage, transdisciplinary team of students and researchers with a commitment to mentorship, community-engaged/community-led research, and interventions focused on climate justice, health equity, and community well-being.

We believe in the power of supportive community, teamwork, collaboration, partnerships, and capacity-building in research and science, and we try to co-create an environment that fosters these key principles in our Lab and our work. Our Lab has a strong focus on global health research, with most of our partnerships and projects being situated in East Africa; however, our students and researchers are from, have interests in, and conduct research with communities across the globe.
