Ways To Give
Our annual fund provides current use dollars to the school. Current use funds provide essential and immediate support to the school, including when it comes to awarding financial aid. Whereas traditional scholarships and government grants often have stipulations on how they can be used, current use dollars are more flexible, and can have an impact in ways other gifts can’t. Below you can find some annual fund initiatives that you can support through your gifts.
The Columbia Social Work Fund is one of many ways to support our exceptional social work students. These gifts provide immediate resources, where they are needed most, that make a Columbia social work education possible and enhance the student experience. The greatest need today is student scholarships.
Contributions to the Financial Aid Gift Fund make it possible for CSSW to award scholarships to 90% of the student body. For some students, these funds are critical to opening the doors to a CSSW education. The most important way we make CSSW accessible to people from all backgrounds is through scholarships.
Even before the pandemic, roughly 40 percent of Americans would struggle to cover an emergency $400 expense. Today, social work students are especially vulnerable in the face of family crises, last-minute relocations, and loss of income and opportunity due to the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and anti-Black racism. The CSSW Student Emergency Relief Fund provides direct financial relief to students when they need it most.
CSSW Faculty Research Support Fund
In order to support the incredible work and research being carried out by our faculty, we created this fund to provide essential aid that keeps these projects going forward. Donations to this fund are a way for you to help advance the future of social work.
The more people who contribute to the annual fund, the more there is to utilize for the benefit of the school, its faculty and staff, and especially its students. For more information on the annual fund, please contact Andres Garza at [email protected]
Currently, we are advocating for those interested in making a major gift at the level of $100K or more to either allocate their contribution to our annual fund or towards the creation of a new scholarship.
To create a named scholarship a gift of $100K or more is required. This is a way to leave a lasting legacy at the school, and to provide student support that lasts in perpetuity. Within certain guidelines, you will be able to name your scholarship what you want, and choose the type of student you want your scholarship to go towards.
To make this gift you can:
- Provide an outright gift of $100K or more
- Declare the amount you are pledging and pay it off in a period of up to five years
- Create a bequest intention in your will specifying your intention to leave this gift to CSSW
