Cost of Attendance – New York City Campus

When making your financial plans, it is necessary to consider tuition and fees as well as living expenses in estimating the overall cost of attendance. Financial aid information can be found on our Costs & Financial Aid page.

Estimated Tuition/Fees for 2016–17
TuitionAll full-time entering students are currently charged a flat tuition rate of $21,716 per semester and are eligible to enroll for 10.5 to 19.5 credit hours each term. Students enrolled in the part-time programs will be charged $1,446 per credit. Students also are charged $1,446 per credit for credits over 19.5. NOTE: Students in the 5-term International Students Program are charged a tuition rate of $18,180 each for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 terms, and $14,460 for the Summer 2017 term.$43,432
Activity FeeThe activity fee of $75 per term is charged to all students to help cover the costs of student events, activities, and to help fund student organizations.$150
University Facilities FeeThis mandatory fee of $461 per term for full-time students provides students access to the facilities at the Dodge Physical Fitness Center and Lerner Hall, and supports enhancements for the libraries and computer networks. For part-time students, this fee is $243 per term.$922
Instructional Technology FeeA cost of $225 per term.$450
Health and Related Services FeeThis fee, charged to all full-time students, allows for use of the campus health service clinic as needed. Students are charged $489 each term.$978
Health Insurance The fee is charged to all full-time students in order to provide them with basic medical insurance throughout the academic year. The Gold-level coverage is charged as $1,090 in the Fall and $1772 in the Spring. (The higher Spring rate is because insurance coverage is provided through the summer.) Students are insured from Aug. 15, 2015 until Aug. 14, 2016. A higher-level Platinum plan is available for $4,164 ($1,586 in the Fall and $2,578 in the Spring). NOTE: The Columbia Student Health Insurance Plan may not cover all of your health care expenses. The plan excludes coverage for certain services and contains limitations on the amounts it will pay. Please read the Student Health Insurance Plan Brochure carefully before deciding which plan is right for you. Students having comparable medical insurance of their own may elect to waive this fee. Student Events FeeOne-time fee for incoming students to cover orientation and graduation expenses.$450
Documents FeeThis one-time fee, assessed during the first term of attendance, entitles students to e-transcripts, enrollment and degree certifications, and the mailing of the original diploma.$105

NOTE: Any student enrolled via an F-1 or J1 visa, which is processed through the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) is charged a $70 ISSO fee each term.

The following table lists estimated living expenses based upon reasonable expenditures over a nine month period. To determine a more realistic cost of living, however, you will need to adjust these figures to account for the personal expenses particular to your lifestyle.
