Summer Intensive

In this course, students acquire the language of statistics and learn the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics. The emphasis of the course is on a conceptual understanding of basic concepts to aid in interpretation. Specific topics include descriptive statistics, standard errors, type I and type II errors, t-test, chi-spare, and analysis of variance.

This is a 0-credit, pass/fail course

This seminar addresses the particular needs of Advanced Standing students. The seminar provides context and tools to deepen, critically reflect upon, and integrate the professional use of self in practice and in the practicum.

Also included is the review and exploration of professional social work identities within historical and current contexts and an examination of the multiple professional identities that are inherent in all areas of social work practice.

The purpose of this course is to extend and deepen the direct practice knowledge and skills to which students are introduced in their BSW programs, and to begin reflectively analyzing, from an anti-oppressive framework, how they will practice through the lens of the social work method they have chosen: Advanced Clinical Practice, Integrated Practice and Programming, Policy Practice, or Leadership, Management, and Entrepreneurship for Social Justice.

Emphasis is placed on selecting, carrying out, and evaluating appropriate interventions based on differential assessment of the person/situation dynamic. The modalities of helping individuals, families and small groups, organizations, communities or neighborhoods, and specific populations are integrated as well as their primary constituencies of focus. Recognition of the social problems that are related to interactions between the micro, macro and mezzo systems are stressed, as well as the role of policy in problem identification, gathering information and facilitating options.
