Sweet Dreams Are Made of This: Social Change Agent Alexis Miesen (MS’04)
This is the story of Alexis Miesen (MS’04), who has taken her master’s degree from the Columbia School of Social Work in some unexpected directions. First, she co-founded a locavore ice cream shop in Brooklyn, called Blue Marble. And now she and her partner have expanded the business to include a shop run by a women’s collective in Africa. As Alexis explains in this film, Inzozi Nziza (“Sweet Dreams” in Kinyarwanda) is Rwanda’s first and only local ice cream shop, and there are plans to replicate it as a micro-enterprise.
