Join Us in Congratulating Class of 2020 Grads!
When Columbia University announced in March that classes would be going online, many of the School of Social Work’s degree candidates for Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy wondered: will we have a commencement ceremony? As they now know, for the safety of our community, we will not be gathering under one roof. Rather, the School will be hosting a virtual ceremony to be held at our originally scheduled date and time of May 20, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
But even if our community cannot come together to congratulate our graduates in the usual way, we can still find ways to keep this year’s graduation special. That’s why we’ve created this page. We hereby invite members of our community to post congratulatory messages and supportive words for the Class of 2020, who have persevered through so much to get to the finish line. If you would like to leave a message, please post it as a comment.
Meanwhile, please allow the entire CSSW faculty and staff community to be the first to offer hearty congratulations to the Class of 2020: YOU DID IT!

I congratulate you on the momentous occasion of your graduation & the achievement of your social work degree. I KNOW it wasn’t easy, but now your there, & at a time when your service is needed so badly. though the job market may not be ideal, you will find your place, & then embark on what I hope will be a meaningful & fulfilling journey of making this world a better place. the latter is a cliche, but isn’t it a good expression of what your striving for? as a graduate of 1981 (ancient!), I wish you success, happiness, & the constant extraordinary
feeling that only making lives better can give you!
To All in the CSSW Class of 2020 – Congratulations! You’re going into a world that needs you. We believe in you can’t wait to see where your journey takes you.
Congratulations, Class of 2020! You are all amazing and make us proud! The world has been waiting for you!! <3
It’s been over fifty years since I was part of the last graduation in the garden of the Carnegie Mansion on Fifth Avenue & 91st Street. How the world has changed since then. Over these many years I had many changes in work setting and population being served, but I was able to continue to change because of the unique education I received at CUSSW. Good luck to you as you embark on your professional careers!!
