Martin G. Englisher is the Executive Vice President & CEO of the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood. He grew up down the block from the Y, and has led the organization since 1981, having served on staff since 1972. During his tenure at the Y, he has steered programming to serve the needs of a diverse and evolving neighborhood, including services for neighborhood families, extracurricular youth programs, accessible social services in three languages, and the federally-funded construction of the Wien House, a housing facility for senior citizens. In 2011, the Y was selected by NYC Department for the Aging as one of eight organizations to receive funding to operate an Innovative Senior Center, which is now the Y’s Center for Adults Living Well. Mr. Englisher has mentored countless neighborhood youth, seeing them through their educations and careers. In 2012, he was awarded the NYC Small Business Services Award for Leadership from the Mayor, recognizing a person who has significantly impacted a community over a lifetime.
