Lori McNeil serves as the Director of Research and Policy at the Homelessness Outreach and Prevention Project at Urban Justice Center. She previously served as an assistant professor of sociology at Long Island University, C.W. Post. Dr. McNeil has lectured on gender, social problems, family, research methods, and statistics. Her research has centered on welfare reform, public housing, and childcare. She is the author of Street Practice: Changing the Lens on Poverty and Public Assistance (2012), a case study of the ways in which NYC nonprofit organizations combine empirical research and policy advocacy to affect social change for impoverished populations. Dr. McNeil earned her BA in sociology from Indiana University, South Bend, and her MA and PhD in sociology from Western Michigan University.
