Julia Chan maintains a private practice in New York City, through which she works with individuals, couples, and families. She integrates systems, relational, feminist, and social justice approaches, along with Buddhist psychology and mindfulness practices. She pays close attention to intersectionality, social location, and therapeutic process.

Ms. Chan immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong as a teenager, and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Her social work experience in community settings includes work with public assistance applicants, families struggling with domestic violence, immigrants, and people affected by cancer and/or mental illnesses. Ms. Chan completed a postgraduate training program in family therapy at the Ackerman Institute, and joined the Ackerman faculty in 2013. She holds an MSW from the Columbia School of Social Work.
