Elana Berman is the Associate Vice President of Member Advocacy at Universal American, with a record of consumer advocacy in both corporate and nonprofit healthcare sectors. Throughout her career, she has focused on social and economic justice, nonprofit management, and strategic development.

Prior to her role at Universal American, Ms. Berman was the Director of Client Programs at the Medicare Rights Center, where she managed client touch programs and served as a spokesperson for low income New Yorkers with Medicare. She spent three years at the Community Service Society, where she managed relationships with community organizations and trained them on the intricacies of health care delivery systems and advocacy.

Ms. Berman is a certified Green Belt with Lean Six Sigma. She is bilingual in Spanish and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. She holds a Masters in Public Health from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health, and a BA in Sociology from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
