Aizhan Mitteldorf

Aizhan Mitteldorf was a Soros Fellow at the Columbia School of Social Work from 2002-2004. Prior to her time at Columbia, she served as regional coordinator at Counterpart International, where she successfully negotiated funding for the Healthy Communities project in four Central Asian countries. As director of the Educational Advising Center for Soros Foundation Kazakhstan, she oversaw a network of five higher education information centers. She helped organize the roundtable on the National Development Strategy for Tajikistan at the UN Millennium Project in New York, and in 1999, she launched the first Educational Fair in Kazakhstan. She has also served as a research associate at Institutional Investor magazine. Ms. Mitteldorf’s research interests include community organizing, nonprofit management and international social enterprise. She holds an MS in Social Work from the Columbia School of Social Work, an MBA in International Marketing and Finance from Baruch College, and a BA in Political Science from Kazakh National University.
