About the Workshop

Despite recent societal and cultural shifts, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer + (LGBTQ+) population continues to experience disparities in health, mental health, and substance use issues relative to the general population. Furthermore, the intersections of sexual orientation and/or gender identity with other social statuses—such as age, race, ethnicity, class, and religion—present unique challenges in properly addressing disparities.

In this one-day workshop, Sara Matsuzaka, LCSW and an expert on the mental health issues faced by the LBGTQ+ population, will help participants develop strategies for culturally-competent screening, assessment, intervention, and referrals with LGBTQ+ clients.
