Being accepted into a Columbia graduate program is a huge accomplishment, but navigating the academy can be daunting for first-gen and other historically underrepresented students. How can faculty and staff create the conditions for these students to not just feel included, but to belong and thrive?
Join us for a roundtable discussion sponsored by Columbia Faculty Advancement and moderated by Ixchel Rosal, Senior Associate Vice President for Student Life. The speakers, who represent many years of experience in graduate student services and support, contributed to the Univcrsity’s Guide to Equity-Based Graduate Admissions, Second Edition, released in December 2022.
Participants:
- Celina Chatman Nelson, Associate Dean of Academic Diversity and Professional Development, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
- Karma Lowe, Associate Dean, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Community Engagement, School of Social Work
- Laila Maher, Dean of Student and Alumni Affairs, School of the Arts
- Judy Wolfe, Senior Associate Dean, Student Affairs, School of Nursing
