About the Workshop

As the world has witnessed the plight of separated immigrant families, many are asking what they can do to help. Before reaching out, however, social workers need to prepare themselves to engage authentically and appropriately with immigrant families. Applying social justice and anti-oppression lenses, Dr. Christiana Best, Ph.D., LMSW (bio)—a social work faculty member at University of St. Joseph, a veteran of New York City’s child welfare system, and currently a co-chair of NASW-NYC’s NYC Immigration and Global Social Work Committee—leads a full-day workshop that provides participants with a comprehensive framework for practicing social work on behalf of immigrant families. Participants will gain an understanding of important laws and schools of thought pertaining to immigration; learn about the stages of migration and the resettling process; and practice culturally responsive and trauma-informed techniques for working with immigrant families.

For more information, including workshop learning objectives and full presenter bio, please see the listing on Eventbrite.
