Social Work LIVE: Allen Zweben and Motivational Interviewing

January 29, 2019 12:00 pm - 12:30 am

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidenced-based intervention that draws from client-centered counseling, cognitive therapy, and a strengths perspective while building intrinsic motivation for change through resolving ambivalence. Initially developed to address problem drinking, MI has been applied to a range of populations and behavioral change areas, from smoking cessation to elderly care.

In our first Social Work LIVE of 2019, Professor Michael Friedman, MSW (top; bio) interviews Professor Allen Zweben, PhD, MSW (bottom; bio). Professor Zweben is known for his landmark research on intervention treatments for alcohol problems. An expert on MI as well as other addiction treatments, he co-authored the influential textbook Treating Addiction: A Guide for Professionals, and has another book on addiction treatment coming out this year.
