Social Work in a Context of Post-Socialist Welfare State in Europe: The Case of Macedonia

At this faculty seminar, scholars Maja Gerovska Mitev (bio) and Svetlana Trbojević will outline main challenges of social work in a context of a post-socialist welfare state of Macedonia, which have resulted from increasing social risks, politicization of social work administration and welfare clients.

Maja Gerovska Mitev is a professor of social policy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje as well as a member of the European Social Policy Network and the Scientific Advisory Committee of UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations Programme. Her scholarship focuses on poverty, social exclusion and comparative/European dimension of social protection systems.

Svetlana Trbojevikj is a professor of social work at the Faculty of Philosophy, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She is head of the Institute of Social Work and Social Policy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Skopje ,and a visiting professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Nis in Serbia. Her scholarship focuses on social work in local community, NGO sector, multiculturalism in social work and social policy, and social inclusion of persons with disabilities.
