Responding to Youth Crime Without Locking Them All Up

November 15, 2017 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

In this Facebook LIVE event*, Dr. Irwin Garfinkel (bio), who is serving as Interim Dean at the School of Social Work, will interview new faculty recruit Mr. Vincent Schiraldi (bio), about the reforms he would like to see to the American youth justice system: can we eliminate youth prisons entirely? Should young adults be treated more like juveniles from the standpoint of the law? Have parole and probation grown too large? In addition to current work as researcher and advocate, Mr. Schiraldi has served as Director of Juvenile Corrections in Washington, D.C., as the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Probation, and as senior advisor to the New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice.
