This workshop seeks to help social workers to open and extend communications with clients and colleagues by engaging in narrative practices and rediscovering the power of story. As social workers we realize that the care of our clients unfolds in stories, and we recognize that a central event of practice is for a client to give an account of self and for a clinician to skillfully receive it. Narrative techniques fulfill the mission and core competencies of the social work profession and are applicable to social workers practicing across a wide variety of professional settings.

The instructors are authors and co-editors of Narrative in Social Work Practice: The Power and Possibility of Story (May 2017).
