About the Workshop

Angel Caraballo

Psychopharmacology is full of intimidating concepts—neurotransmitter systems, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics of psychotropic medications—that are actually simple to learn and important for social workers and mental health counselors to understand. Drawing on his extensive training at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, psychiatrist Dr. Angel Caraballo (bio) will lead a one-day workshop designed to equip clinicians with tools for

  • communicating with prescribing doctors and nurses,
  • understanding ethical and legal guidelines, and
  • advocating on behalf of clients seeking mental health treatments involving pharmacotherapies.

Dr. Caraballo will integrate lecture, seminar, discussion, case studies and multi-media to cover common questions clients have about medications, CNS overview, DSM-5 and medications, and basic psychopharmacology including drug metabolism and pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.

More information, including workshop learning objectives and a full presenter bio, can be found on the registration page.
