EVENT DESCRIPTION

Narrative in Social Work Practice: The Power and Possibility of Story, published in August by Columbia University Press, features first-hand accounts by social workers who have successfully integrated narrative theory and approaches into their practice.

At this event, one of the book’s contributors, Benaifer Bhadha (MSW’08), will present a performance art piece affirming that the telling of one’s personal (vulnerable and authentic) story and having it witnessed can bring healing and connection. Then a panel of five contributors, including Ms. Bhada and co-editor Ann Burack-Weiss (MSW’71, PhD’90), both of whom are alumnae of CSSW, will discuss their particular experiences as social workers who tapped into the power of story.

The discussion will be moderated in person by the other two co-editors, Lynn Lawrence and Lynne Mijangos, and online by CSSW Professor Mary Sormanti, who is also a contributor.
