Pandemic, Economy, and Community: Asian New Yorkers in Focus

February 4, 2022 9:00 am - 10:30 am

ONLINE ONLY (VIA ZOOM) | OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | REGISTRATION REQUIRED

This event will be a dialogue between Nicole Hong (bio), who currently covers New York City’s economy and previously covered criminal justice issues for The New York Times, and Qin Gao (bio), Professor of Social Policy and Social Work at Columbia University.

They will discuss: 1) How has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the economy and community in New York City, particularly Asian New Yorkers? 2) What solutions have been debated in response to the rise in reports of anti-Asian violence? And 3) How has the “double pandemic” of COVID-19 and racial discrimination impacted Asian-owned small businesses?

This event is part of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute series “Asia in Action: Knowledge and Inclusion in a Time of Fear and Ignorance.”
