Motivational Interviewing for Medication Adherence: Strategies & Solutions
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | ONLINE (VIA ZOOM) | REGISTRATION REQUIRED | 3 CE HOURS AVAILABLE FOR A FEE
Workshop Description:
Medication nonadherence is widely recognized as a long-standing problem occurring in the prescription-taking population. The importance of addressing nonadherence is more important than ever as the impact has been felt in rising hospitalization rates, increasing healthcare costs, and worsening patient outcomes.
Motivational Interviewing, a person-centered form of guided dialogue is a well-supported intervention that has helped both prescribing and non-prescribing practitioners to address challenges around medication nonadherence and broader medication management. The workshop will examine the most recent literature on MI and medication management activities. We will review standardized devices and procedures employed to pre-emptively address medication nonadherence. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in role plays, exercises and debriefings to learn how to tailor MI strategies for improving medication adherence among diverse clients in a variety of settings. Case examples will be utilized to facilitate a better understanding of how to resolve medication issues encountered with “real world” clients.
