From Conflict to Connection: Revitalizing Failing Marriages
Some couples marry for the wrong reasons and are never happy. Other couples marry wisely but lose the joy in their relationship. This workshop will demonstrate an approach to helping both types of couples. Starting with an overview of the current state of marriage, Dr. Stuart will describe the 12 essentials of a good relationship and explain the logic of an integrative model of therapy. The approach helps couples build the skills they need to achieve intimacy and to meet common challenges of long-term marriages such as parenting, retirement, and illness. He will also discuss ways to use this model to treat infidelity and partner abuse.
Dr. Stuart originated the operant-interpersonal approach to couple’s therapy. He has more than 50 years of teaching at the graduate level and as a couple and family therapist. He is the author of more than 100 publications including Helping Couples Change.
