First-Generation Experience: A Roundtable with Columbia Faculty

The Office of University Life will host a virtual discussion with Columbia faculty members who were the first members of their families to attend graduate school, focusing on their experiences of navigating higher education. Associate Professor Carmela Alcántara of our School will take part as one of the panelists, alongside Malo Hutson, Associate Professor of Urban Planning; Tonda Hughes, Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Global Health; and Micaela Martinez, Assistant Professor of Environmental Health Sciences. The event, which is part of the Graduate Initiative for Inclusion & Engagement within the Office of University Life and is co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement, will be moderated by Hilda Hutcherson, MD, Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
