Lucy Richards (bio) is the executive director of NCD Free, a crowd-sourced global social movement dedicated to getting NCDs (non-communicable diseases) on the map of young people everywhere. In her previous post as the inaugural general manager of Smiling Mind, a nonprofit that aims to share the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, she promoted the free Smiling Mind app to become Australia’s most successful well-being app in just three years, with over 1.5 million users. She was a finalist in the 2016 Young Australian of the Year Awards for this work.
Richards is no stranger to New York City. Before beginning her career in Australia, she spent three years in the New York tech scene learning best-practices in technology and innovation, in hopes of applying them to the health sector.
At this caucus-sponsored event, Dr. Katherine Shear (bio) of the Columbia School of Social Work will interview Ms. Richards on the topic of the intersection between health and technology. A world expert on complicated grief, Dr. Shear has piloted the creation of two apps for helping bereaved military families cope with loss, called GriefSteps and WellnessSteps. Read more here.
Wine and cheese will be served.
