About the Event

Columbia University is one of four sites involved in the HEALing Communities Study set up by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to tackle the nation’s opioid crisis, with the goal of reducing fatalities by 40 percent in three years. At this event, the first in the HEALing Communities event series, Dr. Bruce R. Schackman (bio) and Dr. Laura Starbird (bio) will analyze the costs associated with Columbia’s plans for tackling this crisis in 16 of the most heavily burdened counties in New York State. After reviewing relevant economic evaluation literature, they will apply basic cost-effectiveness analysis concepts to the Columbia-led study and ask: is the Columbia team designing a model that communities elsewhere in America can afford?
