About the Event

Equitable access to high-quality, timely, and affordable health care is a top policy concern for our nation. Dean Melissa Begg will ask Associate Professor Heidi Allen to describe major health policy changes in the Build Back Better Act, and the impact they may have on access to care for low-income Americans.

About the Speakers

Heidi Allen, MSW, PhD is the Associate Dean of Research and an associate professor in the School of Social Work at Columbia University. Dr. Allen’s research focuses on eliminating health disparities through evidence-based health policy and evolved from her clinical practice in mental health and emergency department social work. She spent several years working in state health policy, focusing on delivery system redesign and coverage expansions. Dr. Allen is currently involved in a variety of research projects focused on access to care, quality, and health outcomes for low-income Americans. She currently serves as a Commissioner on the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC), which advises Congress and the U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services on Medicaid and CHIP policy.
Dean Melissa Begg became the 18th Dean of Columbia School of Social Work in 2019 and will be moderating this discussion.
