For the 2017 Austin Lecture, Dr. Jonathan Singer, whose career combines extensive work on youth interventions with a long-standing interest in the role of technology in social work practice, will explore how changes in communications technology have affected how youth articulate their thoughts and feelings. Does the use of social media in particular escalate the risk of depression, suicide, or cyberbullying among this population? What kinds of research is being done to identify cues and hence reduce this risk? Two full-time faculty members, Desmond Patton and Elisabeth Counselman-Carpenter, will serve as Professor Singer’s discussants. FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; LIVESTREAM AVAILABLE.
