Celebrating Lunar New Year
Dear CSSW Community,
Today marks the start of one of the most important holidays for many Asian communities around the world — Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival. This year is the Year of the Tiger, and in regional variations it is a time for celebrating new beginnings and connecting with family and friends.
Traditionally, Lunar New Year leads to the largest migration of the year, when many people travel to celebrate with close loved ones. Though the COVID-19 pandemic will lead to fewer in-person celebrations, we can still reflect on the past year and look for fortune, happiness, and health in the coming year.
In honor of the holiday, the Columbia China Center for Social Policy is collaborating with the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Caucus, Office of Student Life, and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to host a virtual Lunar New Year Celebration, 12:30–1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2nd. All are welcome to attend. This celebration party will be filled with music, performances, games, prizes, and community building. We hope to see many of you there, and “Happy Lunar Year” to all who celebrate.
