Friend and Dean's Advisory Council Member Endows Second Scholarship

October 02, 2013

Hallam Chow, a long-time friend and donor to the school, has generously endowed a second scholarship to benefit our students. He has established The Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Chow Memorial Scholarship in honor of his grandparents, Edward T. Chow (1909–1979) and Chow Kwok Qiao Zhen (1911–2003).

Born and married in Shanghai, Mr. and Mrs. Chow were dedicated supporters of social and charitable services throughout their lives. They were also known for their connoisseurship of Chinese antiques and made significant contributions to international museums, including the Shanghai Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

“I am proud to endow a Scholarship at CSSW in the name of my grandparents, who were my earliest role models in my love of art and aesthetics,” Mr. Hallam Chow said. “I want to honor and revive their memories by helping social work scholars bring social services and joy to the lives of many others around the world.”

Dean Jeanette Takamura expressed her gratitude for the support. “Hallam Chow is a true friend of the School, and although his degrees are from Georgetown University, he has supported the School now with two scholarships and with many other generous measures of assistance in Hong Kong and Asia,” she said. “We are deeply grateful to him for the scholarships in support of students in our master’s program.”

She added that the gift will help grow the school’s capacity to award need-based student aid, helping to ensure that the nation’s top talent is not diverted from public service.

A partner in White & Case LLP, Hallam Chow works in their Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance practice in Asia, Hallam Chow serves as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council.
