In this episode, Communications Director Mary-Lea Cox Awanohara is joined by Professor Vicki Lens for a conversation with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Harry Gantz. Gantz arrived at the School of Social Work on the last day of Capstone Week, but although he wasn’t physically present, a film he had made with his brother, Joe, had informed the students’ discussion all week long. The brothers’ film is called American Winter. It’s a documentary that first aired on HBO in 2013 and tells the personal stories of eight middle-class families in Portland, Oregon, who were hit hard after the economic downturn of 2007.
