Maria Mursch, LMSW, is Manager of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Early Stage Center at CaringKind, The Heart of Alzheimer’s Caregiving (formerly known as the Alzheimer’s Association, NYC Chapter).
In this role, Maria provides counseling and facilitates various groups for people who have a diagnosis of early stage Alzheimer’s or a related Dementia, as well as provides support to their care partners. She also plays a crucial role in developing programs within the Early Stage Center.
Over the last six years, Maria has worked with individuals and families who have been affected by Dementia, specializing in understanding the diagnosis, providing education, and advocating for appropriate services in various health care settings. Maria is also a certified chair yoga teacher, which allows her to provide yoga for older adults who need modified yoga movements. Additionally, Maria is a social work field instructor, in which she has the opportunity to teach future social workers about the aging population using a Dementia lens.
Maria received her MSW from the University at Albany’s School of Social Welfare, where she participated in the Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education and received a scholarship from The Schenectady Foundation.
