Janet Abbott worked as a clinical social worker with adults with chronic and persistent mental illness until 1979. During this time she supervised interns, social workers and members of other disciplines. She then worked at the NYC Department of Mental Health at the administrative level until 1982 when she was hired by New York State Office of Mental Health in an administrative capacity.

Ms. Abbott has also worked for the Columbia School of Social Work as an Associate Director of Field Education responsible for Family and Children Services and School Based and School Related Services. Her focus on supervision skills and knowledge developed during her years as an administrator and supervisor. The class on Supervision and Staff Development (T7134B) reviews principles and application in these areas.
