Elana Berman is the Associate Vice President of Member Advocacy at Universal American. Ms. Berman has over twelve years experience in the field of health care. Elana is a proven consumer advocate with a strong record of advocacy in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors. Ms. Berman’s professional background includes extensive experience working on issues of social and economic justice, non-profit management and strategic development.
Prior to joining Universal American she worked at the Medicare Rights Center as the Director of Client Programs, managing the the client touching programs and serving as a spokesperson for low income New Yorkers with Medicare. Ms. Berman spent three years at the Community Service Society managing relationships with community organizations and training them on the intricacies of health care delivery systems and advocacy.
Ms. Berman is a certified Green Belt with Lean Six Sigma. She is bilingual in Spanish and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. Ms. Berman holds a Masters in Public Health from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health and a B.A. in Sociology from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
