Adeline Medeiros, LMSW is the Associate Director of Civic Engagement at Barnard College, where she has overseen the New York City Civic Engagement Program since October 2014. Through her work at Barnard, she provides opportunities for students to learn about social issues and to create change using varied methods of engagement and service. Additionally, Ms. Medeiros is the founder of ideaRISE, a social impact consulting agency. She created ideaRISE in 2015 in order to provide organizations with training and strategic planning services and to assist individuals in building meaningful social impact careers.
Prior to joining the staff of Barnard College, Ms. Medeiros served as the Director of Brooklyn Initiatives for the Center for Community Leadership at JCRC-NY, training Brooklyn-based professionals to become more effective leaders. Previously, she worked and interned in an adult day program with individuals suffering from dementia, a substance abuse program helping recovering opiate addicts, an elementary school overseeing individual education plans and social skills groups, and a domestic violence program helping women to rebuild their lives as they transitioned out of the shelter system. She has extensive community building, social justice training, and leadership development experience. She is a member of European Dissent, a white anti-racist group working as part of a multi-racial coalition for racial justice.
Ms. Medeiros received a Bachelor of Social Work from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, MA, and a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in New York, NY. She has received her LMSW and is a certified MBTI practitioner.
