For many in the social work profession, the Biden-Harris administration signals a chance to reshape the nation’s economic and social policies around addressing racial equity. In this episode of Social Impact LIVE, host Richard Hara (bio) sits down with Mitchell I. Ginsberg Professor Irwin Garfinkel (bio) and Ph.D. alumnus and adjunct professor Charles E. Lewis, Jr. (bio) to talk about the agenda they would like to see the new administration adopt on issues of poverty, discrimination, and other forms of social injustice. Which policy areas would they recommend prioritizing, and what achievements do they think we can realistically expect to see during the next four years? Professor Garfinkel is a world-leading researcher on poverty and the welfare state and a go-to resource for policymakers interested in anti-poverty programs at all levels of government. Dr. Lewis is the founding director of the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy (CRISP).
