The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion invites you to join us in celebrating Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month with a discussion of “Narratives on History, Belonging, and Activism.” The panel will be moderated by Vivianne Guevara, MSSW, Lecturer at the Columbia School of Social Work.

The panel, with live captioning available, will feature four speakers of various backgrounds who are committed to equity and inclusion for Latinx and Hispanic folx and other historically marginalized populations. They will share their personal stories, perspectives on history and belonging, and strategies for sustaining activism and healing. Full bios can be found on the registration page.

  • Annemarie Pérez, PhD, Researcher and specialist of Chicanx and Latinx literature, digital humanities and pedagogies, and intersectional feminism; Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, California State University-Dominguez Hills
  • Daphne Frias, Youth activist on disabilities, gun violence prevention, and climate justice; organizer, storyteller and peace-builder; former New York State Director, March for Our Lives; founder, Box the Ballot
  • Gloria Lucas, Founder, Nalgona Positivity Pride, an in-community eating disorders and body positivity organization for BIPOC communities; Xicana eating disorders awareness educator; Creator of Nalgona Positivity Pride, Seeds From the Flesh, and Mujeres Market
  • Isa Noyola, Translatina activist and cultural organizer; former deputy director, Transgender Law Center; current deputy director, Mijente; board co-president, Women’s March
