Join us for a weekly two-hour, motivational interviewing skills intensive across seven sessions led by Dr. Allen Zweben and Mary Piepmeier. In a highly interactive, experiential-based learning format, attendees will develop and hone fundamental skills of motivational interviewing, a collaborative, person-centered therapeutic approach and communication style grounded in testable theory and transportable across disciplines and diverse populations.

The curriculum will begin by covering the relational aspect of MI including exhibiting collaboration, evocation, acceptance and compassion and the technical skills of open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries (OARS). The series will then sequentially move through the four processes of MI as an approach for guiding a client through the process of behavioral change and cover more advanced skill-based strategies.

This series is best suited for those who are looking looking to either start building, or further hone, their MI skills through experiential practice. Workshop attendees will engage in real/role play exercises to learn and practice the following MI fundamentals: MI spirit, open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries (OARS), the four processes of MI (engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning), and evoking change talk/reducing sustain talk strategies.
