Event Description
In Unusual Cruelty (The New Press, October 2019), award-winning civil rights lawyer Alec Karakatsanis (bio) delivers a powerful indictment of the legal profession for its role in perpetuating the structural racism and other indignities with America’s justice system. At this Columbia Law School-hosted event, he will discuss the book’s ideas with Issa Kohler-Hausman (bio), a law professor and sociologist at Yale University (currently visiting at NYU Law), and Lucy Lang (bio), executive director of the Institute for Innovation in Prosecution at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Bruce Western (bio), Bryce Professor of Sociology and Social Justice and co-founder the Justice Lab at Columbia University, will moderate.
