DAHLIA LITHWICK, JD

About the Event

Dahlia Lithwick (bio), a Canadian-American journalist and Slate editor who has been covering the Supreme Court for 20 years (see her Supreme Court Dispatches), will address the attack that has been taking place on women’s reproductive rights in legislatures and courts across the land. For many, this assault on women’s rights culminated in President Trump becoming the first American president to attend the March for Life, on January 24, 2020—the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. To counteract this anti-woman movement, Lithwick will urge American women to engage in “civic visibility”: to see and be seen by their representatives, in op-ed columns, and at the ballot box.

NOTE: NYS-, NJ-, and CT-licensed social workers can earn 1.5 CE hours; other states, please email [email protected].

About the Lucille N. Austin Lecture

The Lucille N. Austin Lecture was established to honor the contributions of Lucille N. Austin, an esteemed member of the Columbia School of Social Work’s faculty for more than 30 years. The program has been made possible, in part, by a generous contribution in memory of Jane R. Heimerdinger and a grant by the Kenworthy-Swift Foundation.
