2ND ANNUAL SCHOOLS SOCIAL WORK CONFERENCE: Reframing the Dream: Helping Our Nation One Child at a Time

June 9, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

New York City School Social Workers face a variety of new issues as they relate to our changing times and city. As income disparity widens, and the politically charged times bring the social issues that school social workers face to mainstream America, schools, students, and families are left with the task of reframing their own educational dreams. In New York City where the student population is increasingly linguistically and culturally diverse there are many salient issues impacting children, families and schools today.  Are we prepared as school social workers to face these challenge?

The 2nd Annual Conference will attempt to address the National, State and City political initiatives that will bring school social work to the forefront in education. This conference addresses evidence-based school social work, homelessness (McKinney-Vento Act), hip-hop education, reality pedagogy, and restorative practices. New York City students will present their views and experiences in a documentary on immigration in “New Visions: A Deeper Look at the American Dream”.

Co-sponsored by the Columbia School of Social Work and New York State School Social Workers’ Association (NYSSSWA).
