About the speakers

Nick Baitoo, MSW’17, is a second-year graduate student at the School of Social Work, focusing on Advanced Clinical Practice with an emphasis on Contemporary Social Issues. He is founder and co-president of the School’s Middle Eastern Caucus. Before coming to Columbia, Nick worked in programs supporting homeless youth and was also involved in education as a teacher and as an evaluator of after-school programs. In his current field placement at the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, Nick helps to provide health care and related services to New York’s LGBTQ communities. Upon graduation he plans to continue working to empower Middle Eastern and LGBTQ-identifying communities, in addition to teaching and conducting research.

John Robertson, LMSW, PhD (CSSW’95), has taught Policy and Advocacy at CSSW for twenty years. In addition to teaching, Robertson has practiced community social work in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn for the last 35 years, with a focus on elder care, the treatment of substance abusers, and reentry programs for inmates.
